Curt Wheeler, MAI

Curt Wheeler is a 4th generation central Floridian (1880’s to Lakeland area of Polk County via North Carolina and Georgia); a native of Lakeland, Florida; a graduate with high honors University of Florida with BSBA/real estate major; MAI designation of the Appraisal Institute (certificate 6713 in 1983); 2nd-generation MAI that has practiced as a real estate appraiser for 40+ years; major emphasis is interior central Florida and western North Carolina (Cherokee, Clay, and Graham Counties). Wide variety of experience in commercial, industrial, retail, apartment, subdivision, farming, and acreage real estate appraisals with assignments including gulf-front property in Florida panhandle, 500+ unit apartment complex, leasehold shopping centers, power plant siting, multi-parcel road alignment valuation analysis for engineering input, PUD mixed use developments, NNN-investments, citrus and farming, wholesale and retail nurseries, mega-distribution warehousing, specialty office uses including medical, dental, and veterinarian, and general office, retail, commercial, warehousing, and acreage.

Qualifications include:

  • MAI, certificate 6713.  The MAI designation of the Appraisal Institute required at time of designation included 4-year college degree,  five years of peer-reviewed and approved appraisals, 120 hours of advanced appraisal education, and passing a comprehensive examination.  It signifies a higher level of education, experience, training, and knowledge than that required by state-certification programs.  See Links page for additional information on the Appraisal Institute.

Community activities have included:

  • Current school tutor (35+ years); volunteer The Still Place Hayesville NC, volunteer in Guardian Ad Litem program (19 years); CCCRA Hayesville, Clay County, NC board member; miscellaneous volunteer assignments
  • Past activities: Board member and board presidency Learning Resource Center,  board member and board presidency Imperial Symphony Orchestra, Church involvement (including various volunteer positions, children’s Sunday School teacher, domestic mission participant for multiple years, executive board member in Presbyterian, Methodist, and Episcopalian denominations), member of Leadership Lakeland Class XIII, PTA president Dixieland Elementary, eight-year membership in Rotary, nine-year board membership YMCA,  co-president/board member of a local Habitat for Humanity.

Family includes (in quantitative order low to high!):

  • One grandson, two adult dogs (and a bunch awaiting high on that mountain), three granddaughters, four adult children, lots of acquaintances.
